Customizing transparency flattener styles
When you print transparent artwork from Adobe InDesign 2.0--or export it to a format other than Adobe PDF 1.4 (Acrobat 5.0)--the artwork is "flattened." That is, InDesign cuts transparent artwork into multiple pieces, some that remain vector objects and some that become rasterized areas. Using transparency flattener styles, you can optimize the way InDesign prints transparent artwork to get the best results.

Filter effects for Adobe Photoshop
You're probably aware of Alien Skin by virtue of Eye Candy 4000, the company's suite of effects for Adobe Photoshop. The strength of the Eye Candy collections throughout their various incarnations has always been in the range and versatility of the effects. With Splat!, Alien Skin's latest venture into Photoshop effects, we find a more limited selection of filters with a fairly narrow range of application, but with tremendous variation and, of course, the solid, professional interface we've come to expect from Alien Skin.
Propellerhead says CDs to ship soon
Propellerhead Software says its previously announced Reason 2.0 has gone gold, which means that it will ship to customers in the near future. Reason is a software-only suite designed to look like a classic studio rack, packed with samplers, analog synths, mixers, step time drum machines, effects and a real-time multitrack sequencer. The announcement follows a one-month semi-public beta period.
Mac extension coming this month
Emagic says its Logic Platinum audio suite for the Macintosh will soon support Digidesign ProTools HD. The support will come in the form of an extension called PTHD | Ext.
