![]() The cheap and easy way to get the most out of the After Effects Production Bundle If you're using Adobe After Effects on a Mac, no doubt you've taken note of the debate currently raging here at Digital Media Net. Do you favor the Mac's workflow and functionality, or do you favor the PC's render speeds? Well, with an After Effects render farm, you can take advantage of both, using the Mac on the front end and multiple PCs and/or Macs on the back end to help improve your render times significantly with very little additional processing power. ![]() A 2D solution to a 3D phenomenon Earlier this week we brought you a tutorial on faking depth of field in Adobe Photoshop, a compositing technique to simulate the look of aperture settings on a camera. Today we're going to look at a somewhat related technique for creating the illusion of distance and scale: atmospheric volume.
Why the Mac will continue to dominate the creative market There's a fallacious line of reasoning that says that the faster a machine is, the better. We've been witness, of late, to new benchmark studies showing that current-generation AMD and Intel chips are faster than the current-generation chips found in Macintosh computers in real-world software tests running After Effects and Photoshop, not just clock speed. And this has led some to conclude that Windows-based PCs are, therefore, better machines and that the Mac is now obsolete. Wrong. ![]() Plugin effects for Adobe After Effects What stands out in my mind about The Foundry's products to date is not so much the variety of the tools (though there is plenty of variety) but the quality. The Foundry is, above all, a developer dedicated to the professional video industry, and their effects plugins reflect this not only in terms of the tools they choose to develop, but also in terms of functionality and, maybe more importantly, the final result. Release 8 coming in the fall Maxon this week announced Cinema 4D release 8, a major update to the company's 3D modeling and animation package. Release 8 will be available in the fall with, for the first time, modular options for incorporating only the features that a particular user needs. There will also be two bundles incorporating the optional modules. |
