![]() Dual-processor models start at $1,699 Apple has completely revamped its lineup of professional and consumer desktop computers. The company started shipping two new dual-processor towers (starting at $1,699) that will be available this week and will ship a third high-end dual-processor model by the end of September. The company has also introduced new eMacs and lowered the prices on iMacs. ![]() Set Your Vector Graphics in Motion--the Easy Way! Great vector graphics can become motion graphics more easily than you might think. Logo images created in Adobe Illustrator, for example, can be rendered with dazzling visual effects in Adobe After Effects for video or Web purposes--in fact, these two software applications are the basis of many standard visual effects workflows. However, even professionals who use both applications extensively are often unaware of features in Adobe Illustrator that speed the process of creating motion graphics.
![]() Part 1: The basics of still and motion mosaics Photomosaics gained some popularity a few years back with the release of Peter Weir's film The Truman Show. It wasn't the movie itself that spurred this popularity, but the movie's poster art, which showed a large image of Jim Carrey (as title character Truman Burbank) composed of hundreds of smaller photos showing scenes from his life. ![]() It's ready aim, aim, aim, aim... all over again Is anybody eager to dive into HDTV? As I read the tea leaves, there are signs pointing to an onslaught of HDTV in the near future. But there are a few details that could trip it up, at least slow it down a little, so this isn't a sure thing that'll be happening by next week by any means. But I'm rooting for HD, and look forward to working with it on a regular basis. Paradoxically, whenever HDTV becomes the rule rather than the exception, I know there will be some of us who long for the comfortable old shoes that are standard definition video, our old pals PAL and NTSC. ![]() Part 1: After the flood Continuing along in our series of photographic compositing techniques, this week we begin a new segment on water effects in Adobe Photoshop. We have, so far, discussed masking, depth of field and atmospheric volume. To these we now add a technique for compositing bodies of water onto images. |
