Using the Release to Layers functions to generate animated SWF files
One of the features that's often overlooked in Adobe Illustrator 10 is its ability to generate Flash animations. The process is not a complicated one, but using tools included in Illustrator--and even some third-party plugins--you can use Illustrator to generate morphing logos and text, swirling graphics, ripple effects and a whole range of animations ranging from the simple to the complex.

We arrive now at the final installment in our series on customizing Apple's iDVD 2.0. We've learned so far how to modify existing buttons and even add to the range of buttons available to the application. Now we look at a different method for putting our customized looks together for future use and distribution, as well as a way to create a Mac OS X installer for mass distribution of your themes.

I don't know why I never started this series earlier. Both my e-mail and my user forums are inundated with requests from users for help with some of the most basic troubleshooting topics. Why? They've recently switched to Mac OS X, and they don't know where anything is. Me to the rescue!

There's really no way to describe Harald Heim other than as a Plugin Guru. Aside from the fact that he develops plugins for still and motion graphics applications, he also heads up The Plugin Site, a Web site dedicated to understanding plugin technologies (and, of course, marketing his own products). And, as no small matter of consequence, his writings have expanded my own knowledge of the inner workings of graphics applications, especially Adobe Photoshop, and served as a springboard for my series on creating custom plugins for that application.
