Synthetik
Studio Artist 1.5
Painting and rotoscoping software for the Mac
It occurs to me that with all the squawking I've done about the
virtues of Synthetik Studio Artist, I haven't yet done a review of version
1.5 or explained its broad range of features all in one place. I'll
rectify this now. Studio Artist does everything, so it's a difficult
application to pin down. However, it's not too hard to describe the
overall effect of Studio Artist. Since it's only available on the Mac,
I'll describe it this way: It makes you feel the way you felt the first
time you used your Mac. That is, it's the kind of thing you use and
then have dreams about. (Yes, I have dreams about my Mac and Studio
Artist. Further details are unavailable at the moment.)

Color
Mapping in Synthetik Studio Artist
Basic
operations and methods for cleaning up maps
In
Synthetik Studio Artist, you can use the Color Map Image Processing Operation
to apply the colors from one image to another. But color mapping, like
any automated process, isn't always perfect. You might hope to generate
a bright orange sky and get a muddy purple instead. Or you might want
to turn your sun black, but it comes out red. Today we're going to look
at some methods for correcting color mapping in Studio Artist. But first
we'll see some of the basic steps to generate a color map and apply it
to a new image.

How to wreck Windows the fun and legal way
I receive
letters occasionally from readers telling me their tales of woe and triumph.
The tales of woe usually involve companies taking away a designer's Mac
to replace it with a Compaq or something equally horrifying. I haven't
received any of these letters lately. But I have been getting mail from
people recounting the the tales of triumph in which they manage to convince
someone in their company to bring in a Mac, which inevitably leads to
the Great Mac Gathering.
