Macromedia
Fireworks 4
Image editing and Web graphics creation software
I've
been using Macromedia Fireworks just about every day for the last year.
I've been impressed with its ability to crunch large files into tiny
JPEGs with virtually no loss in quality, and I've fallen in love with
its effects and batch processing capabilities. Now, for the last few
weeks, I've switched to Fireworks 4, which is available as a stand-alone
product or in a bundle with Dreamweaver 4. This latest release builds
upon the firm foundation laid in Fireworks 3 with a refined interface,
some improved functionality and a smattering of new features.

Hello Again
Apple’s
colorful consumer push has left industry professionals a little blue,
but its new iDVD authoring tools may spark yet another Mac revolution.
By Jeff Sauer
A couple of years
ago, Apple took a decidedly consumer turn toward fruity iMacs and blueberry
G3s. The strategy was a success, getting the company back on solid financial
footage and re-invigorating its fervent user base. At the same time, Apple’s
commitment to high-end video post and content creation became rather suspect.
But Apple didn’t forget about video. Steve Jobs just went back to his
one trick: creating a revolution.

Talkin' Smack: OS
X Gold
Master ... Finally
The transition
begins
It's
hard to believe it's finally happening. OS X has gone gold master and is
now on its way to manufacturing for final shipment March 24. We've been
waiting, what, six years for Apple's next-generation OS? And now Apple has
given the first definitive sign that it will actually come together and
make its way onto users' desktops in final form.
At some level I won't believe in OS X until I load it up and see my hard
disk mount. After all, ship dates have been announced in the past, with
no new product to show for it. But this time it looks to be for real.
