TUTORIAL
Video Tutorial: Keying Green in Adobe Premiere
Taking care of the blue screen blues
by Brian Maffitt
In this clip from Total Premiere, Brian Maffitt gives a tour of Premiere's terrific keying abilities. Starting with an image of toys shot against a blue screen, Brian applies the Transparency command. Setting the Key Type to "Blue Screen" is a no-brainer, but Brian also demonstrates the subtleties of the Threshold and Cutoff parameters. The same technique serves Brian well as he next works with a green screen shot of a toy airplane (yes, you can set the Key Type to "Green Screen" too!) Brian then turns to the Motion Settings in his quest to make the keyed airplane fly across the screen, and demonstrates the necessity of setting an appropriate Fill Color. This clip is a sure cure for the blue screen blues; let Brian show you that with Premiere, it is easy keying green.

REVIEW

CValley FILTERiT 4
Filter effects for Adobe Illustrator 8/9
FILTERiT is probably the most remarkable set of tools I've ever seen for a vector illustration program. This is a package of innumerable effects for Adobe Illustrator 8 and 9, ranging from new types of transformations to object distortions to effects that can be applied to text without even converting text to paths.

I reviewed version 3.0 of this set of filters last year and was impressed with its variety, power, stability, performance, ease of use, versatility and price point. Version 4.0 adds even more to the package, while still maintaining the incredibly modest price of $129.

Do I sound a bit enthusiastic about FILTERiT 4? I am. This brings features to Illustrator for the Mac that are unheard of in any vector program on any platform.

OPINION
Talkin' Smack: Fanatical and Proud of It
Self righteousness never felt so good
by David Nagel
It's great to be a Mac psychofanatic. I'm an enthusiast and professional user and, as an added bonus, I get to spend every day of my life writing about the Mac, playing with review hardware and software and joke around about the inferiority of the currently popular, albeit utterly inferior, competition, viz. Windows. And I do so with all the self righteousness of any other kind of fanatic, with the big difference being that my point of view happens to be correct.
