Facebook Launches Portal TV, a $149 Video Chat Set-Top Box

Josh Constine, writing for TechCrunch: Facebook wants to take over your television with a clip-on camera for video calling, AR gaming and content co-watching. If you can get past the creepiness, the new Portal TV lets you hang out with friends on your home’s biggest screen. Imagine hearing “clip-on Facebook camera” and not running in the opposite direction. Also, their example footage is bullshit. There’s tiny small print stating that the footage is simulated, but they’re trying to pass off professional video camera footage as the work of this camera.  ★
