Former Tesla executive Doug Field, who CEO Elon Musk once praised as “one of the world’s most talented engineering execs” is returning to Apple Inc. to help his former company build hardware and software for self-driving cars. In a statement to reporters on Thursday, Cupertino-based Apple confirmed it had hired Field, who quit the company in 2013 to join Tesla. He rose rapidly through the ranks at Palo Alto-based Tesla to eventually take charge of both of the engineering and production sides…
