Apple’s new iPhones are a game-changer for international travel, thanks to dual-SIM support that can offer users the same rates as local users. While the three new devices announced Wednesday could serve as a saving grace for many travellers, there’s a key caveat for support that means it’s not quite as straightforward as jumping on a plane and hoping for the best.First, a quick primer. The iPhone XR, XS and XS Max allow the use of two SIM cards at once: a regular physical nano SIM stored on a metal tray as with previous phones, and a digital embedded SIM (or eSIM). The latter is a relatively new standard that previously appeared in the Apple Watch Series 3 cellular models. Users can add a new eSIM by visiting the Settings app and scanning a QR code. The phone can store more than one eSIM, but you can only use one at a time. When the second SIM is activated, iOS will ask users to choose a default line for things like iMessage and calling people from outside of the address book. While both numbers can make and receive calls, the user must visit the “Settings” app to move between different data connections....
